Ana Sokolovic (Serbian Cyrillic: Ана Соколовић; born in 1968) is a talented Canadian music composer. She lives in Montreal, Quebec. Her modern music pieces have won many awards in Canada. She also helps lead the Quebec Contemporary Music Society.
About Ana Sokolovic's Music
Ana Sokolovic studied how to compose music in Serbia. Later, she earned her master's degree at the Université de Montréal. She learned from famous teachers like Dušan Radić and José Evangelista.
Ana writes many different kinds of music. This includes music for plays, small groups of instruments, operas (musical plays), orchestras, and singers.
A music group called the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec (SMCQ) celebrated Ana's music in 2011-2012. They held over 200 events across Canada to show off her work. This was to mark 20 years since she moved to Quebec.
One of Ana's operas is called Svadba-Wedding. It tells the story of the day before a Serbian wedding. This opera was performed in Canada and Europe from 2012 to 2015. It even returned for a show at the Opera de Montreal in 2018.
In 2015, Ana made history. She became the first woman composer to create an opera for the Canadian Opera Company. This opera was based on a poem by Philip Larkin.
Her music piece "Ringelspiel" was played by the Montreal Symphony Orchestra in 2017. Her compositions have also been performed at famous places. These include London's Royal Opera House and Montreal's Conservatory of Music.
In 2021, Ana created a short film with music called Iskra. It explored how technology affects people. This film was part of a series for the National Arts Centre and CBC Gem.

- Juno Award for Classical Composition of the Year: 2019, for her piece Golden Slumbers Kiss Your Eyes
Ana was also nominated for a Juno Awards of 2017 in the Classical Composition of the Year category. The nominated piece had a very long title!
Education and Early Life
Ana Sokolovic was born in Serbia. Before she started studying music, she learned classical ballet. She also studied theater. She moved to Quebec, Canada, when she was a young adult. She now teaches at the Université de Montréal.
