Analisa Nadine Torres, born in 1959, is a judge in the United States federal court system. She serves as a district judge for the Southern District of New York. This means she works in a special court that handles important cases in that area.

Early Life and School
Analisa Torres grew up in a family that worked in law and government. Her father, Frank Torres, was a judge in the New York Supreme Court. He also served as a member of the New York State Assembly. This is a group of people who make laws for New York State.
Her grandfather, Felipe N. Torres, also worked in the legal system. He was a Family Court judge and an assemblyman too. He passed away in 1994.
Analisa Torres went to Harvard College and earned her first degree in 1981. She graduated with high honors. Later, she went to Columbia Law School and received her law degree in 1984. This degree is called a Juris Doctor.
Her Career as a Lawyer and Judge
Analisa Torres started her legal career working at law firms in New York City. From 1984 to 1992, she focused on real estate law. She worked at three different firms during this time.
After that, from 1992 to 1999, she worked for Justice Elliot Wilk. He was a judge in the New York Supreme Court. During some of these years, from 1993 to 1995, she also helped plan for the city as a commissioner.
Becoming a Judge
Torres became a judge herself in 2000. She first served as a judge in the New York City Criminal Court until 2002. Then, from 2003 to 2004, she was a judge in the New York City Civil Court.
From 2004 to 2009, she worked as an acting justice in the New York Supreme Court in the Bronx. She handled serious criminal cases. In 2010, she was officially elected as a justice for that court. She continued in this role until 2013.
Serving as a Federal Judge
On November 14, 2012, President Barack Obama chose Analisa Torres for a very important job. He nominated her to be a United States district judge. This position was for the Southern District of New York.
Her nomination went through a process in the Senate. On April 18, 2013, the Senate approved her nomination. She officially started her work as a federal judge on April 23, 2013.
