Anastasia on Her Own is a fun novel for young adults written by Lois Lowry. It was published in 1985. This book is part of a popular series about a girl named Anastasia Krupnik and her younger brother, Sam.
The Story of Anastasia
Anastasia's mom is an artist who draws pictures for children's books. One day, she gets an exciting chance to go to California. She will help make a movie based on one of the books she illustrated!
Anastasia thinks being in charge of the house while her mom is away will be super easy. She and her dad even make a very organized list of chores. But things don't go as smoothly as she hoped.
First, her little brother Sam gets chicken pox. This means Anastasia has to stay home from school to take care of him. Then, her boyfriend, Steve, asks her out on their very first real date. But she can't go! She has to stay home to watch over a meeting between her dad and one of his old friends, Annie.
Anastasia wants to plan a romantic dinner for herself and Steve. But she worries that the romantic mood might affect her dad and Annie's meeting. Many small and big problems pop up. Luckily, Anastasia doesn't have to be on her own for too long. Her mom comes home early and helps fix everything. Her mom's return brings peace and happiness back to the house.
