Anderson Ebberson

Anderson Ebberson (1843–1916) was an important American politician. He served in the government of Arkansas. He was a member of the Republican Party.

Ebberson represented Jefferson County, Arkansas, in the Arkansas House of Representatives. He served two terms, first in 1877 and again in 1881. The House of Representatives is where elected officials make laws for their state.

Serving in the Arkansas Government

In 1876, Anderson Ebberson was elected to the state government. He was one of eight African Americans who won seats in the general assembly that year. Seven of them became representatives, and one became a senator. This was a significant time for African American leaders in politics.

Representing Jefferson County

Anderson Ebberson was one of three representatives for Jefferson County, Arkansas. He worked alongside C. H. Rice and William Murphy. All three of these representatives were African American.

When he served again in 1881, Ebberson was still representing Jefferson County. His fellow representatives from the county that year were W. C. Payne and Carl Polk. All three of them were African American, showing their strong presence in the state's leadership.
