András Kovács (born June 20, 1925 – died March 11, 2017) was a famous Hungarian movie director and screenwriter. He made many films that were shown at big international festivals. He directed 30 movies between 1961 and 1996.

András Kovács was a very important filmmaker from Hungary. He directed 30 movies during his career, which lasted from 1961 to 1996. As a screenwriter, he also wrote the stories for many of his films.
His Movies and Film Festivals
Kovács's movies were often shown at major international film festivals. These festivals are big events where films from all over the world are presented and judged.
- In 1968, his movie The Lost Generation was shown at the 6th Moscow International Film Festival.
- Later, in 1978, his film A ménesgazda was part of the 29th Berlin International Film Festival.
- His 1981 movie, Temporary Paradise, won a special award called the Silver Prize at the 12th Moscow International Film Festival. This was a big achievement!
- Another one of his films, The Red Countess, was shown at the 14th Moscow International Film Festival in 1985.
Being a Film Festival Judge
András Kovács was not only a director whose films were shown at festivals, but he also helped choose the best movies. He was a member of the jury at two important film events:
- He was a judge at the 5th Moscow International Film Festival in 1967.
- He also served on the jury at the famous 1976 Cannes Film Festival in France.
His Later Years
András Kovács passed away in Budapest, Hungary, on March 11, 2017. He was 91 years old and left behind a great collection of films.
