Important Recognitions

In 1975, André Chastel was chosen to be a member of the Académie des inscriptions et belles-lettres. This is a very old and respected group in France that focuses on history, languages, and ancient studies. Being a member showed how important his work was.

His Legacy

André Chastel's work helped many people understand the Italian Renaissance better. His books are still studied by students and experts today. He passed away in 1990 and is buried at Ivry Cemetery in Ivry-sur-Seine.
