André Sollie (born July 7, 1947 – died January 2025) was a talented Belgian writer and artist. He was famous for creating books for children and young people. He wrote the stories and also drew the pictures for many of them.

André Sollie's Creative Journey

André Sollie started his writing career in 1986. His first book was a collection of poems for children. It was called Soms, dan heb ik flink de pest in.

In 2000, André Sollie worked with Ingrid Godon. They published a children's book together. It was titled Wachten op Matroos. This book was very popular. A year later, they both won the Gouden Griffel award for it. This is a very important Dutch award for children's books. The book was later translated into English. Its English title is Hello, Sailor. The story is about a lighthouse keeper named Matt. He misses his friend, Sailor, very much.

In 2004, Sollie published a special book called Dubbel Doortje. This was the first book he both wrote and illustrated himself. His amazing drawings in this book won him the Boekenpluim award.

His novel for teenagers, Nooit gaat dit over, came out in 2005. It was so good that it became a movie! The film was called North Sea Texas. It was released in 2011 and directed by Bavo Defurne.

André Sollie won the Boekenpauw award two times for his illustrations. In 1998, he won for De brief die Rosie vond. This book was written by Bart Moeyaert. He won again in 2010 for De Zomerzot. This time, he wrote and illustrated the book himself.

André Sollie passed away in January 2025. He was 77 years old.
