About André Sollie

André Sollie began his writing journey in 1986 with a children's poetry book called Soms, dan heb ik flink de pest in. This was his first step into the world of children's literature.

Famous Books and Awards

In 2000, André Sollie worked with Ingrid Godon to publish the children's book Wachten op Matroos. This book was very popular, and they both won the Gouden Griffel award for it a year later. The book was later translated into English and called Hello, Sailor. It tells the story of a lighthouse keeper named Matt and his friend, Sailor, whom he misses very much.

André Sollie also wrote and illustrated his own books. In 2004, he published Dubbel Doortje, which was the first book where he did both the writing and the pictures. His illustrations in this book were so good that he won the Boekenpluim award for them.

Books for Young Adults

Sollie also wrote novels for older kids and teenagers. His 2005 novel Nooit gaat dit over was made into a movie in 2011. The film was called North Sea Texas (or Noordzee, Texas) and was directed by Bavo Defurne.

André Sollie was recognized for his amazing illustrations multiple times. He won the Boekenpauw award twice. The first time was in 1998 for his illustrations in the book De brief die Rosie vond, which was written by Bart Moeyaert. He won the award again in 2010 for a book he wrote himself, called De Zomerzot.
