North Sea Texas (Dutch: Noordzee, Texas) is a 2011 Belgian drama romance film. It was directed by Bavo Defurne, who also helped write the story with Yves Verbraeken. The film is based on the book Nooit gaat dit over by André Sollie. It stars Jelle Florizoone, Mathias Vergels, and Eva Van Der Gucht. The movie tells the story of a young boy named Pim and his journey of growing up and finding a special connection with his best friend, Gino.
Story of the Film
The movie begins with a young boy named Pim and his mother, Yvette, living in the quiet Belgian countryside. They have a dog named Mirza, a Miniature Pinscher. Yvette, who is divorced, enjoys playing the piano accordion and often visits a local bar called Texas.
One day, Pim and his mother go to a fair. There, they meet Zoltan, a kind man who works with the traveling carnival. Pim is very interested in Zoltan. Zoltan sometimes rents a room at Yvette's house, but eventually he stops coming to town. Meanwhile, Yvette starts spending time with a man named Etienne, whom Pim doesn't like.
As Pim gets older, he becomes very close friends with Gino, who is a little older than him. Gino becomes Pim's best friend, and they share a very special bond. They decide to keep their strong friendship a secret. At the same time, Gino's sister, Sabrina, starts to have feelings for Pim. Gino also spends time with a girl named Francoise. When Pim sees Gino with Francoise, he gets upset, and this causes a problem between the two friends.
Later, Sabrina learns about Pim's feelings, and Yvette decides to end her relationship with Etienne. Around this time, Zoltan unexpectedly returns. Gino starts to feel uncomfortable with everything happening and begins to distance himself from Pim. Pim, feeling sad and confused, runs away with Mirza and moves in with Sabrina. Gino is living out of town with Francoise.
After a sad event, Gino and Sabrina's mother, Marcella, passes away. Pim and Sabrina are seen living together, but it's clear they are just friends. One rainy day, Gino comes back. Pim tells Gino that his sister isn't home, but Gino says he came back for Pim. Gino gives Pim a special cloth that means a lot to both of them. He tells Pim to tie a knot in it so he will never forget him. Then, Gino and Pim share a warm hug, showing they are friends again. Pim asks Gino to "stay," and the film ends with them embracing, suggesting a happy new beginning for their strong friendship.
