Andrea Shaw (born December 18, 1983) is an American professional bodybuilder. She holds five Ms. Olympia title wins and four Ms. Rising Phoenix title wins.

Andrea Shaw's Early Life

Andrea Shaw grew up in Michigan. As a young girl, she loved gymnastics and competitive cheerleading. When she was 13, Shaw saw famous bodybuilder Lenda Murray at a gym. At that time, she didn't think she would ever compete in bodybuilding herself.

After middle school, Shaw focused on her schoolwork. Later, her mother, who was a nurse and a former personal trainer, encouraged her to start working out. Shaw began training at Powerhouse Gym. A female bodybuilder, who was her mother's training partner, started giving her advice on building muscles.

Andrea Shaw's Figure Career

When Shaw was 18, she was encouraged to get into great shape. She found a magazine about athletic fitness models and decided that was her goal. Her body quickly responded to weight training. Soon, people started asking her if she competed in muscle competitions.

She didn't feel she was big enough to be a bodybuilder. Instead, she liked how "figure competitors" looked in magazines. In 2008, she entered two figure competitions. She placed 3rd and 4th, but she felt it wasn't the right path for her. She then took eight years off from competing.

During this time, Shaw went to Wayne State University. She studied exercise science and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. She also continued to improve her weight training. Shaw learned to make healthy food choices, like choosing baked chips instead of regular ones. She also researched bodybuilding and got certificates for group and personal training.
