Andrew Aubrey facts for kids
Andrew Aubrey (died around 1356) was an important English businessman and politician. He served three times as the Lord Mayor of London when Edward III was king.
Andrew was the son of Roger and Denise Aubrey. He worked with spices, especially pepper, and was part of the Guild of Pepperers. This group later became known as the Worshipful Company of Grocers, which was a powerful trade organization.
Andrew Aubrey became a Sheriff of London in 1331. Sheriffs were like important police officers who helped keep order in the city. From 1333 to 1355, he was an alderman. An alderman was a leader who represented a specific area, or "ward," of the city. He first represented the Bread Street Ward, then later moved to the Cordwainer Ward in 1345. He stayed an alderman until he stepped down in 1355. Andrew was also elected as a Member of Parliament for the City of London in 1338 and 1340. This meant he helped make laws for the country.

During this difficult time, some people involved in the fighting attacked the mayor's officers. One person even grabbed Andrew Aubrey and threatened him. To stop the trouble quickly, Andrew Aubrey took strong action. He had the main troublemakers punished very severely. The king later praised Aubrey for his actions, saying that attacking the mayor's officers was like attacking the king himself.

His Children and Grandchildren
One of Andrew's children, John Aubrey, married a woman named Matilda. Matilda was the daughter of Adam Fraunceys, who became Lord Mayor of London ten years after Andrew Aubrey. After John Aubrey passed away, his wife Matilda married John Montacute. He later became a very important noble known as the Earl of Salisbury.
