Early Life and Education
Andrew Clench came from a family in Suffolk, England. He studied medicine at Cambridge University. On March 29, 1671, he earned his degree as a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.).
A Respected Doctor
Dr. Clench became a member of important medical groups. On December 22, 1677, he joined the College of Physicians. He became a full fellow of the college on December 23, 1680. He also joined the Royal Society on April 22, 1680. The Royal Society is a famous group for scientists.
Dr. Clench lived in Brownlow Street in Holborn, London. He owned land in Norfolk and Suffolk.
His Talented Son
Dr. Clench had two sons, Edmund and John, with his wife Rose. One of his sons was incredibly gifted. A famous writer named John Evelyn wrote about this child. Evelyn met the boy when he was not yet twelve years old.
Evelyn was impressed by how smart the boy was. He noted that the boy was not forced to study all the time. He played with other children for several hours every day. He was just as serious about his games as he was about his studies. This shows he had a balanced and happy childhood.

Andrew Clench died in 1692.
