Andrew Jackson Transue (born January 12, 1903 – died June 24, 1995) was an American politician and a lawyer from Michigan. He served one term in the United States House of Representatives, which is part of the U.S. Congress, from 1937 to 1939.

Who Was Andrew J. Transue?

Andrew J. Transue was born in Clarksville, Michigan. He grew up there and went to local schools. He later became a lawyer and served in the U.S. Congress.

Becoming a Lawyer

Andrew Transue studied law at the Detroit College of Law. He earned his first law degree in 1926. Later, in 1968, he earned another advanced law degree.

After finishing his studies, he became a licensed lawyer in 1926. He started his law practice in Detroit and then moved to Flint, Michigan, in 1927.

Serving Genesee County

Before going to Congress, Andrew Transue worked as a prosecuting attorney for Genesee County. This means he was the lawyer who represented the government in court cases. He held this important job in 1933 and again in 1937.

Time in Congress

In 1936, Andrew Transue decided to run for a seat in the United States House of Representatives. He ran as a member of the Democratic Party.

Winning the Election

Transue ran against the person who was already in office, a Republican named William W. Blackney. Transue won the election and became the representative for Michigan's 6th congressional district.

He served in the 75th United States Congress. His term began on January 3, 1937, and ended on January 3, 1939.

Losing Reelection

In 1938, Andrew Transue tried to get reelected for another term. However, he lost the election to William W. Blackney, the same person he had defeated two years earlier.

Life After Congress

After leaving Congress, Andrew Transue went back to being a lawyer. He lived in Flint, Michigan, for the rest of his life.

He continued to work on important legal cases. In the early 1950s, he was the lawyer for one side in a big case that went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. He won that case, showing his skill as a lawyer.
