Early Political Life

Andrew Lavin started his political journey with the Sinn Féin party. This party was very important in Ireland's fight for independence. In 1921, he was elected as a TD without anyone running against him. He represented the Leitrim–Roscommon North area. This was for the 2nd Dáil, which was an early Irish parliament.

The Anglo-Irish Treaty and His Choice

A very important event happened in Irish history: the Anglo-Irish Treaty. This was an agreement signed in 1921 between Irish leaders and the British government. It created the Irish Free State. However, it also led to a big disagreement in Ireland. This disagreement caused the Irish Civil War.

Andrew Lavin supported the Anglo-Irish Treaty. He voted in favor of it. Because of his choice, he was re-elected in the 1922 general election. He was still a pro-Treaty Sinn Féin TD.

Later Elections and Leaving Politics

After the Treaty, the pro-Treaty side of Sinn Féin formed a new party. It was called Cumann na nGaedheal. Andrew Lavin joined this new party. In the 1923 general election, he was elected as a Cumann na nGaedheal TD. This time, he represented the Roscommon area.

Andrew Lavin tried to get re-elected in 1927. However, he lost his seat in the June 1927 election. He tried again in the September 1927 election but was not successful. After this, he was no longer a TD.
