Discovering the St Ninian's Isle Treasure

The treasure was found by a local schoolboy named Douglas Coutts. He was digging near an old church ruin and found a wooden box. Inside the box were many beautiful silver objects. These included bowls, brooches, and other pieces from the 8th century.

Andrew O'Dell, as a geographer and antiquarian, played a key role in studying and understanding this important find. The treasure is one of the most significant discoveries of early Scottish silver. It tells us a lot about the people who lived in Scotland long ago.
