Angel Leonie Coulby, born on August 30, 1980, is an English actress. She is best known for playing Gwen (who later became Queen Guinevere) in the popular BBC fantasy TV show Merlin.

Early Life and Education
Angel Coulby was born and grew up in Finsbury Park, London. Her family background is Afro-Guyanese.
She studied acting at the Queen Margaret University School of Drama in Edinburgh. She earned a top degree and received the Laurence Olivier Bursary in 2000. This bursary is a special award for talented drama students.

Coulby first appeared in an episode of Scariest Places on Earth. Her big break came in 2001 with a role in the BBC comedy show 'Orrible.

Angel Coulby was chosen to play Gwen in the BBC One fantasy series Merlin. Gwen later becomes Queen Guinevere.
Coulby liked playing Gwen because her character changed a lot. She started as a humble maidservant and grew into a strong, capable queen. She appeared in 61 out of 65 episodes across all five seasons of the show.

In 2013, Coulby took on the main role of Jessie, a jazz singer, in the BBC Two drama Dancing on the Edge. She acted alongside famous stars like Chiwetel Ejiofor and John Goodman.
In February 2013, it was announced that Coulby would star in The Tunnel. This show is a British-French crime drama. She played Laura Roebuck and starred with Stephen Dillane and Clémence Poésy. She returned for a second series in 2016.
Coulby also returned to the stage in 2020 for the play Albion at the Almeida Theatre. This play was filmed and shown on BBC Four.
In March 2020, Coulby joined the cast of the Apple TV+ thriller Suspicion. She plays Vanessa Okoye, an investigator looking into a kidnapping.
In June 2021, it was announced that Coulby would star as Diana in the series The Net. This Austrian football drama aired in November 2022.
In 2022, she also performed in the play The Forest at the Hampstead Theatre. She played Sophie, the mistress of the main character.
