Angel's High School Running Journey
Angel Piccirillo started showing her amazing running skills early on. When she was in high school, she competed in many big races.
Early Races and Achievements
- In 2010, Angel ran in the high school mile race at the Millrose Games. She finished in 6th place with a time of 4 minutes, 59.38 seconds.
- As a junior at Homer-Center Junior/Senior High School, she competed in the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships. She placed 13th, which was a great achievement.
- The next year, as a senior, she ran in the same championship again. She finished 32nd.
Setting Records in High School
In 2012, during her senior year, Angel set a new record for the PIAA in the 1600-meter race. Her time was 4 minutes, 39.42 seconds. This showed how fast she was becoming! She also placed 2nd in the mile at the New Balance HS Indoor Nationals.
Angel's College Running Career
After high school, Angel Piccirillo continued her running career at Villanova University. She became a star athlete for the Villanova Wildcats track and field team.
Team Success at Penn Relays
Angel was a key part of the Villanova team. In 2017, she helped her team win the 4x800 meters relay at the famous Penn Relays. Their time of 8 minutes, 26.36 seconds was the fastest in the world that year for the women's 4x800 meters relay. Angel won her 8th "Penn Relays wheel" in 2017. This is a special award, and she won more of them than any other college athlete!
Individual Honors in College
Angel also achieved great things on her own.
- In 2016, she placed 20th at the 2016 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships. This earned her All-America honors, meaning she was one of the best college runners in the country.
- She also won the individual title at the 2016 Big East Conference Championship in cross country.
- At the 2016 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships, Angel finished 2nd in the mile race. She also placed 13th in the 3000 meters race at the same event.
- In 2013, Angel and her teammates placed 2nd in the Distance Medley Relay at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Angel's Professional Running Career
After college, Angel Piccirillo became a professional runner in 2017. She has continued to compete at a high level.
