Angela P. Harris, born in 1961, is an American law professor. She teaches at the UC Davis School of Law. Professor Harris is known for her work in several important areas of law. These include critical race theory and feminist legal studies.
She started teaching law at UC Berkeley School of Law in 1988. Later, in 2009, she became a visiting professor at the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School. In 2011, she moved to the UC Davis School of Law. She has been a professor there since the 2011–12 school year.
About Angela Harris
Angela Harris studied at two major universities. She earned her first degree, a Bachelor of Arts (BA), from the University of Michigan in 1981. After that, she went to the University of Chicago. There, she earned her Master of Arts (MA) in 1983. She also earned her law degree, called a Juris Doctor (JD), in 1986.
After law school, she worked for a judge. She was a law clerk for Judge Joel Flaum. He worked at the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. She also worked as a lawyer for a law firm named Morrison and Foerster. In 1992, she became a tenured professor at UC Berkeley. This means she earned a permanent teaching position.
Awards and Recognition
Professor Harris has received many awards for her work. In 2003, she won the Rutter Award for Teaching Distinction. This award recognizes excellent teachers. She also received the Matthew O. Tobriner Public Service Award in 2003. This award is given for helping to make universities more diverse. It also honors her work in guiding new lawyers.
In 2008, she won the Clyde Ferguson Award. This award comes from the Minority Section of the Association of American Law Schools. Angela Harris is also seen as a top expert in critical race theory. She is recognized alongside another important scholar, Kimberlé Crenshaw.
