Angela Ryder is an amazing Wilman Noongar woman, an activist, and a leader in her community from Western Australia. She helped start the Langford Aboriginal Association and is a Senior Manager at Relationships Australia, where she helps Aboriginal families.

Angela was born in Denmark, Western Australia. When she was a child, she was part of the Stolen Generations. This means she was taken away from her family between the ages of 8 and 12. She lived in places called Wandering and Roelands Missions. Her mother was also taken from her family. In the early 1980s, Angela started working for the government in Katanning. Later, she moved to Perth, where she has lived for many years.

Making a Difference: Angela's Work

Angela Ryder speaks the Noongar language. She is very dedicated to helping people from the Stolen Generation and all Western Australians learn and use their language again.

Helping the Community

Angela has done many important things. She used to be the leader of the Langford Aboriginal Association. She is also a Senior Manager of Aboriginal Services at Relationships Australia, helping families and communities. Angela has also been the treasurer for NAIDOC Perth, which celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.

She was also a radio host on Noongar Radio for a show called "Yorgas Yarning." This show helped share stories and information. Angela also used to be on the board of Yule Brook College. In 2012, she attended the launch of a special website called Moorditj Moodle for Polytechnic West. This website helps students learn the Noongar language.

Bringing Back Language and Culture

In January 2010, the Langford Aboriginal Association celebrated two big things. They created a bush food garden and launched a series of children's books. These books were written in both Noongar and English.

The Langford Aboriginal Association offers language classes for children and adults. It is one of the main groups in Western Australia that works hard to bring back and teach the Noongar language.

Awards and Recognition

Angela Ryder's hard work and dedication to her community have been recognized many times.

In 2013, she was named "The Community Person of the Year" at the Perth NAIDOC Awards Ceremony. This award celebrated her amazing contributions to her community.

In 2011, Angela was one of the first 100 women to be included in the Western Australian Women's Hall of Fame. This special event marked 100 years of International Women's Day. She was recognized as one of the 100 most inspiring women in Western Australia.

More recently, in October 2017, Angela Ryder received the Curtin University John Curtin Medal. This award honored her long-standing leadership and positive impact in the community.
