Life

Angelos Terzakis was born in a town called Nafplion in 1907. He lived there until he was about eight years old. Then, his family moved to Athens. In Athens, he finished his schooling. He also studied law at the University of Athens.

His last name, Terzakis, has an interesting origin. His grandfather was a tailor. In Greek, a tailor is called 'terzi'. This is where his family name came from.

Angelos Terzakis started his writing career in 1925. His first published work was a collection of short stories called The Forgotten. He also took part in the Greco-Italian War in 1940. He wrote about his experiences during the war in some of his short stories. His book April especially shares these wartime memories.

In 1969, he received a special award. It was the prize of Literary Excellence from the Athens Academy. This award recognized his important contributions to literature.
