The Anglo-Sikh War Memorial is a special place built by the Government of Punjab in Ferozeshah, India. It honors the brave Sikh soldiers who fought in the Anglo-Sikh Wars. This memorial remembers those who died in important battles. These battles include Chillianwala in 1849, Sabhraon in 1846, Mudki in 1845, and Ferozeshah in 1845.

Designing the Memorial

Who Designed the Anglo-Sikh War Memorial?

The main designer of this important memorial was H. S. Chopra. He was a senior architect from Punjab Agricultural University. He planned the three-story building. It stands near the Sirhind feeder and the Rajasthan Canal in Ferozepur.

Dr. M. S. Randhawa helped guide H. S. Chopra's work. Dr. Randhawa was the Vice Chancellor of the Ferozeshah Memorial Committee. This committee was set up by the Punjab Government.

Landscape Design of the Memorial

The beautiful outdoor areas around the memorial were designed by S. Hari Singh Sandhu. He was the head of Horticulture at Punjab Agriculture University at that time. He made sure the memorial's surroundings looked fitting and respectful.

Exploring the Memorial

What You Can See at the Memorial

The Anglo-Sikh War Memorial is built on a large piece of land, about 2 hectares (which is like 5 acres). This area is where one of the actual Anglo-Sikh wars took place. The first floor of the memorial is raised about 2 meters above the ground.

Inside the memorial, you can find many interesting things. There are collections of murals, which are large paintings on walls. You can also see portraits, which are paintings of people. Other paintings show scenes from the battlefields. Famous artists like Jaswant Singh and Kirpal Singh created these artworks.

Historical Displays and Weapons

The memorial also features quotes carved into bronze. These quotes are from Cunningham's history books and the war poems of Shah Mohammad. They help tell the story of the wars.

You can also see real weapons from the Anglo-Sikh Wars. These weapons were given by the Punjab government. They came from the Patiyala Museum and are now on display for everyone to learn from.
