The Angola colobus (Colobus angolensis) is a type of monkey that lives mostly in trees. It belongs to a group of monkeys called Colobus. These monkeys are special because they don't have thumbs like most other primates. This unique feature helps them to curve their fingers into a hook shape, which is great for swinging through trees!

What They Look Like

Angola colobus monkeys have shiny, black fur covering most of their bodies. Around their face, they have short, white hair. A cool, U-shaped cape of long white hair goes down their shoulders and across their lower back. Their tail also has a fluffy white tuft at the end. These monkeys usually weigh about 2 pounds and can grow to be over 2 feet long. In the wild, they can live for 20 to 30 years.

What They Eat

The Angola colobus mostly eats leaves, which make up about two-thirds of their diet. The other one-third is made up of fruits and seeds. Some groups, like those in East Tanzania, prefer to eat ripe fruit, but they also eat fully grown leaves.

Where They Live

Colobus monkeys live in the trees found in the African savannah and tropical forests. They are found in many countries across Central and East Africa.
