What is Angrignon Park?
Angrignon Park is a big green space where people can relax and enjoy nature. It's a great place for walking, biking, and having picnics. The park is open all year round, from early morning until midnight.
History and Naming
The park is named after Jean-Baptiste Angrignon. He was an important local leader, or "alderman," in the Côte Saint-Paul area from 1921 to 1934. He was born in 1875 and passed away in 1948. Before 1927, the park area was known as Crawford Park.
Park Design and Features
The design of Angrignon Park was inspired by 19th-century English gardens. This means it has a natural, flowing look, rather than straight lines and formal shapes. The park is home to about 20,000 trees. It also has many winding paths that are perfect for exploring. You'll find a lovely pond surrounded by tall plants called cattails.
The park was once a small farm many years ago. Today, it's a peaceful escape from city life.
Getting to the Park
Angrignon Park is easy to reach by public transport. The Angrignon station is right at the northern edge of the park. This station is the last stop on the Montreal Metro Green Line. There are also many bus routes that stop at Terminus Angrignon, which is next to the metro station.
Location in Montreal
The park is located in a busy part of Montreal. It is just south of an area called Ville-Émard. To the east, you'll find Carrefour Angrignon, a large shopping center also named after Jean-Baptiste Angrignon. To the west of the park is the area of Verdun.
Future Plans
On December 7, 2020, the City of Montreal announced an exciting plan. They want to create a "green corridor" connecting Angrignon Park to another park called Bois-de-Saraguay Nature Park. This new corridor will have walking paths, bike trails, and beautiful landscaping. It will make it easier for people to enjoy nature and travel between the two parks.
