Angular Recording Corporation was an independent record label based in London, United Kingdom. A record label is a company that helps artists record and sell their music. This label was started in June 2003 by two former college students, Joe Daniel and Joe Margetts.
The founders loved "angular" pop music, a style with sharp and energetic sounds. They were also inspired by another famous label from Manchester called Factory Records. Angular Recording Corporation was known for its creative and sometimes unusual projects.

The Start of the Label
The founders, Joe Daniel and Joe Margetts, were students at Goldsmiths College. To get money to start their company, they participated in medical testing. With the funds they earned, they were able to release their first record in November 2003.
This first release was a compilation album called The New Cross: An Angular Sampler. A compilation album features songs from many different artists. The popular music magazine NME gave it a lead review, which helped the label become well-known.
A unique fact about the label is that its very first "artefact" or item (with the catalogue number ARC 001) was a real Ordnance Survey Triangulation Station. This was a metal and concrete post used for mapping, which they claimed for the label.
Important Artists and Music
Angular Recording Corporation helped many bands become famous. They signed and released music for several popular groups, including:
- Klaxons
- The Long Blondes
- These New Puritans
- Crystal Stilts
- Art Brut
- Bloc Party
The label was active from 2003 until 2012. During this time, it released many singles, EPs (short albums), and full albums for its artists.
A Major Setback
In 2011, a big fire at the PIAS warehouse in London was a huge disaster for the label. This warehouse stored music for many independent record labels. In the fire, Angular Recording Corporation lost all of its stock. This meant their entire collection of CDs and records was destroyed.
Sampler Albums
The label released special compilation albums called "samplers." These albums introduced music fans to new bands. The first two samplers were very important and helped launch the careers of bands like Art Brut, Bloc Party, and The Long Blondes.
ARC 002: The New Cross
This album featured early songs from bands that would later become very popular. Some of the artists included were:

- The Violets
- Art Brut
- Luxembourg
ARC 004: Rip Off Your Labels
This second sampler continued to showcase new talent. It included bands such as:
- The Long Blondes

Even though the label stopped releasing new music in 2012, an online "Angular Store" website is still active.
