Animakee Wa Zhing 37 First Nation facts for kids
The Animakee Wa Zhing 37 First Nation is a community of Anishinaabe people in northwestern Ontario, Canada. They were once known as the Northwest Angle 37 First Nation. In the Ojibwe language, their name, Animikii-wajiing, means Sacred place of the Thunderbirds. This First Nation is part of a larger group called the Anishinabeg of Kabapikotawangag Resource Council. This council is also part of the Grand Council of Treaty 3.
As of 2015, the First Nation had 405 registered members. About 179 of these members lived on the Animakee Wa Zhing 37 reserve lands.

Community Leadership
Like many communities, First Nations have leaders who help guide their people. These leaders are chosen by the community members. The main leader is called the Chief. Other leaders are called Councillors. They work together to make decisions for the First Nation.
Current Leaders of Animakee Wa Zhing 37
In December 2021, the community held an election to choose their leaders. Linda McVicar was elected as the Chief. The Councillors elected were Don Kavanaugh, Angel Andrushuk, Lorraine Major, and Theresa Noonan. They continue to serve the community.
