How Animals Now Helps Animals
Animals Now has achieved many important things for animals. They work hard to make sure animals are treated kindly. Here are some of their key successes:
Protecting Geese and Ducks
- One of their first big projects was against force-feeding geese and ducks. This practice makes animals bigger for food.
- In 2003, a court in Israel ruled that force-feeding was against the law.
- The ban officially started in 2006.
- Even after the ban, Animals Now continued to take legal action against farms that still force-fed geese.
Helping Calves in Farms
- The organization also worked to stop calves from being kept alone in small crates. These crates did not let the calves move around.
- They also campaigned against not giving water to calves. These were common practices in the veal industry.
- In 2005, a court in Israel made these practices illegal.
Starting the Challenge 22 Program
- In 2014, Animals Now started a program called "Challenge 22."
- This program helps people try a vegan lifestyle. Vegan means not eating any animal products.
- People in the program get help from food experts and advisors.
- Some important people, like members of the Israeli parliament, joined the program. They became vegan after taking part.
- After its success in Israel, "Challenge 22" was launched in other countries too.
Exposing Animal Mistreatment
- Animals Now has done many secret investigations. They filmed how animals were treated on farms.
- These videos were shown on TV. They revealed animal mistreatment at big meat companies in Israel.
- Sometimes, workers who mistreated animals faced consequences. Some slaughterhouses were even temporarily closed.
Banning Animals in Circuses
- The organization led a campaign against using animals in circuses.
- This led to a country-wide ban in Israel on using wild animals in circuses.
- Some cities, like Tel Aviv, Beersheba, and Herzliya, also banned the use of domesticated animals.
Stopping Live Animal Exports
- Animals Now has campaigned against sending live animals from other countries to Israel. This is called "live exports."
- Their work has led to a proposed law to stop these live exports to Israel.
International Investigations
- The organization worked with PETA India to investigate animal mistreatment. This investigation looked at egg and poultry farms in India.
- Animals Now also worked with PETA to expose animal mistreatment in slaughterhouses in South America. These places export meat to Israel.
- Because of this investigation, religious leaders told kosher slaughterhouses to stop using a method called "shackle and hoist." This method was found to be harmful to animals.
