What Has Animals Now Achieved?
Animals Now has worked hard to make life better for animals. Here are some of their important successes:
Protecting Geese and Ducks
- One of their first big projects was against force-feeding geese and ducks. This practice was used to make a food called foie gras.
- In 2003, a court in Israel decided this practice was against the law. The ban officially started in 2006.
- Animals Now kept working to make sure farmers followed this new rule.
Helping Calves in Farms
- The group also worked to stop calves from being kept alone in tiny crates. These crates did not let the calves move around.
- They also fought against not giving calves enough water. These were common practices in the veal industry.
- In 2005, a court ruled that these practices were illegal in Israel.
Introducing "Challenge 22"
- In 2014, Animals Now started a program called "Challenge 22."
- This program helps people try a vegan lifestyle. Vegans do not eat any animal products.
- People in the program get help from experts like nutritionists.
- Some important people, like Tamar Zandberg and Sharren Haskel, became vegan after joining the program.
- "Challenge 22" first started in Israel, but it is now a worldwide program.
Exposing Animal Abuse on Farms
- Animals Now has secretly filmed what happens to animals on big farms.
- These videos showed animal abuse at major meat companies in Israel.
- The videos were shown on TV, which helped many people see the problem.
- Sometimes, these investigations led to workers facing legal action. Some slaughterhouses were even temporarily closed.
Banning Animals in Circuses
- The group led a campaign to stop using animals in circuses.
- This led to a country-wide ban in Israel on using wild animals in circuses.
- Some cities, like Tel Aviv and Beersheba, also banned using domesticated animals in circuses.
Stopping Live Animal Exports
- Animals Now has campaigned against sending live animals from other countries to Israel.
- This effort has led to a proposed law to stop these live exports.
Working with Other Animal Groups
- Animals Now has worked with groups like PETA India to show animal abuse.
- One investigation showed problems in India's egg and chicken farms.
- They also worked with PETA to investigate slaughterhouses in South America. These places sent meat to Israel.
- Because of this, religious leaders told kosher slaughterhouses to stop using certain harsh methods.
