Anita Lynn Wetzel (1949 – 2021) was an American artist. She helped start a special art center called the Women's Studio Workshop. This place is known for making unique art books and paper.

Biography
Early Life and Education
Anita Wetzel was born on May 27, 1949. Her hometown was Sauquoit, New York. She went to college at the State University of New York at New Paltz. There, she studied art and developed her skills.
Founding the Women's Studio Workshop
In 1974, Anita Wetzel had a big idea. She teamed up with three other artists. Their names were Ann Kalmbach, Tatana Kellner, and Barbara Leoff Burge. Together, they created the Women's Studio Workshop (WSW). This art center is in Rosendale, New York.
Anita was very interested in paper art. Because of her, WSW became famous for two things. They focused on papermaking and creating artist's books. An artist's book is a work of art that uses the form of a book. The workshop is still active today. It continues to publish amazing artist's books.
Her Work and Legacy
Anita worked at WSW until 1980. Then she moved to New York City. She returned to WSW in 1995. She worked there as the director of development until 2017. Anita passed away on March 14, 2021. She died in Rosendale, New York.
Her artwork is kept in many important places. These include the Brooklyn Museum and the Smithsonian Libraries. Her art is also in the library of the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
In 2021, WSW held a special show. It was called Walking Lightly, With Intention. This show celebrated Anita's art. That same year, WSW started a grant in her name. It's called the Anita Wetzel Residency Grant. This helps new artists.
