Anja Štefan is a Slovene writer, poet, and storyteller. She is well-known for her amazing stories and poems, especially those she writes for children. She also loves to share old Slovenian folk tales and stories from other countries.

About Anja Štefan

Anja Štefan was born on April 2, 1969, in a town called Šempeter pri Gorici. She went to the University of Ljubljana to study Slovene and English. She finished her first degree in 1994. Later, she continued her studies in folkloristics. This is the study of traditional stories, customs, and beliefs of a community. She earned her master's degree in this area in 1999.

Anja Štefan works as a writer on her own. She is one of the few professional storytellers in Slovenia. She even started The Slovenian Storytelling Festival in 1998! This festival helps keep old stories alive. Anja loves to explore and share Slovenian traditional stories.

Most of her writing is for children. She writes poems and stories, and she also retells Slovenian folk and fairy tales. She also translates folk stories from other languages into Slovene. In 1993, she began working with Ciciban. In 1998, she started working with Cicido. These are two popular Slovenian magazines for children. Anja Štefan has won many awards for her literary work. She won the famous Levstik Award twice. She received it in 2001 for her book Melje, melje, mlinček (which means Grind, Grind, Grinder). She won it again in 2007 for Kotiček na koncu sveta (meaning A Corner at the End of the World).
