The Ann Street Historic District is a special area in Downtown Hartford, Hartford, Connecticut. It's called a historic district because it has many old buildings that are important to history. This area was once busy with shops and small factories.

The district includes buildings along Ann Uccello Street, from Chapel Street to Hicks Street. It also covers parts of Pearl Street, Hicks Street, Allyn Street, and Asylum Street. The buildings here show how the city of Hartford grew between about 1880 and 1930. This historic district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Exploring Ann Street's History

  • The Hotel Lenox, also known as the Hartford Hotel, is a grand building from 1899. It was built in a fancy style called Beaux-Arts.
  • The Metropolitan Garage on Hicks Street is quite special. Built in 1930, it was one of the first multi-level parking garages. This shows how cars were becoming more popular back then!
  • Another building, 316-320 Ann Uccello Street, was built for a company that made electrical parts for cars. This also highlights the growing importance of automobiles.

Ann Street's New Name
