Anna Aguilar-Amat (born January 31, 1962, in Barcelona) is a talented Catalan poet, translator, and university professor. She teaches about language and computers at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Anna writes mostly in Catalan, especially her poetry. She also writes some essays and studies in Spanish.

Anna has published five books of poems and has won many awards for her Catalan poetry. Her poems have been translated into many languages, including English, French, and German. She was even featured in a book called Anthology New European Poets.

About Anna Aguilar-Amat

Anna Aguilar-Amat earned her PhD from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Today, she teaches about how language is used in translation and with computers. She has written many special texts in this field.

Even though she won writing awards as a student, Anna became very well-known in Catalan poetry in 2000 and 2001. She won three big awards in two years. These were the 'Jocs Florals' of Barcelona for her first book, Petrolier (Oil Tanker). She also won the 'Carles Riba Award' for Trànsit entre dos vols (Transit between Two Flights). And she received the 'Màrius Torres Award' for Música i escorbut (Music and Scurvy).

Anna also worked with the famous Catalan poet Francesc Parcerisas. They wrote a poetry book together called Coses Petites : poemes a quatre mans (Little Things: Poems by Two Hands). This book had cool drawings by the publisher, Miquel Plana. She also wrote an essay book in Spanish called El placer de la lectura (The Pleasure of Reading).

Her fourth poetry book is Jocs de l'oca (The Goose Games). The poems in this book are set up like the 63 squares of the board game, Game of the Goose. You can "play" the book as you read it!

Her poetry has been put into many collections of Catalan poems. It has been translated into languages like Arabic, English, French, and Spanish. She was also part of the New European Poets book.

Since 2003, Anna has been the president of QUARKpoesia. This is a university group that helps share poetry. They also help translate poetry from languages that are not often translated. In 2006, she started a poetry book series called Refraccions (Refractions). This series mainly publishes poetry books that are written in two languages.

Anna also performs her poetry by reciting it aloud. She has traveled to many places to share her work. She has been part of major festivals in Catalonia and the Valencian Community. This includes the "Setmana de Poesia de Barcelona" (Barcelona Poetry Week). She has also organized many poetry readings at the university. She invites poets from other countries to speak there.

In 2007, she was honored at the first Festa de la Poesia a Sitges for her work in Catalan poetry. She has recited her poems in other countries too. This includes Argentina and Ukraine. She also performed at the Nuyorican Poets Café in New York.

Anna's poetry is known for being very real and surprising. It mixes storytelling, strong feelings, and unique pictures made with words.
