Anna Ascani grew up in Città di Castello, a town in Umbria, Italy. She studied philosophy at the University of Perugia, earning her bachelor's degree in 2009. Later, she completed a master's degree at the University of Trento in 2012. In 2024, she finished her PhD in Politics at LUISS University.

Anna Ascani began her political journey at a young age. In 2006, when she was just 18, she ran for a seat on the city council in her hometown, Città di Castello. The next year, she supported Enrico Letta during the first elections for the leader of the new Democratic Party.
