Anna Meades facts for kids
Anna Meades (born in 1734) was an English writer of novels. She likely passed away before 1779.
Early Life
Anna Meades was born in Fordingham, Hampshire, England. She was baptised on October 18, 1734. Her parents were Frances Blachford and Reverend William Meades. Her father was a church leader in Rampton, Cambridgeshire. Anna also had a younger brother named William.
Writing Career
Anna Meades wrote letters to a famous writer named Samuel Richardson. This was between January 1757 and August 1758. At first, she used the pen name "Cleomira." She asked him to publish her first novel. He said no, but they kept writing to each other. He read her novels and gave her advice.
Both of Anna's novels were published without her name on them. Her second novel was called The History of Sir William Harrington. It was advertised as being checked and improved by Samuel Richardson. However, Richardson's family later said this was not true. Even so, this novel was quite successful. It was printed again in 1787 and then once more in 1797.
Anna Meades was not mentioned in her father's will, which was written in 1779. This suggests she might have died before that time.
