Anna Pessiak-Schmerling was born as Anna Schmerling. Her mother was Maria Anna Giannatasio del Río. Her grandfather, Cajetan Giannatasio del Río, ran a special boarding school in Vienna.
Anna studied music with a famous teacher named Mathilde Marchesi. After her studies, Anna became a voice professor. She taught at the Vienna Conservatory. This is a very important music school.
Anna wrote many different kinds of music. She composed pieces for the piano and many songs. She was especially known for her masses. These are special musical pieces for church services. She also wrote other sacred works, which are religious songs.
Anna's family had a special connection to the famous composer Ludwig van Beethoven. Beethoven wrote a song called "Hochzeitslied" (which means "Wedding Song") for her mother's wedding in 1819.
