In 1983, Anne Brunila's son became ill with a fever that affected his brain. Because of this, he was not able to read or write as an adult.
In 2012, Anne Brunila was chosen for a special role. She got to pick the winner of the Finlandia Award for that year. This award is a very important prize in Finland. On October 12, 2012, she decided to leave her job at a company called Kone. She wanted to try new things after her father passed away. She officially stopped working there in 2013. Helena Aatinen took over her position.
In 2016, the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture asked Anne Brunila for help. Her job was to help grow the creative parts of the Finnish economy. This included things like art, music, and design.
