Anne Ingram was born in Auckland, New Zealand, in 1947. She spent most of her childhood in different towns. These included Dunedin, Te Kūiti, and Orewa.
She has helped organize many events for children. For example, she coordinated the Kapiti Children's Book Festival. She also led the Kapiti Schools' Mastermind Competition. Anne is the head of a group called the Kapiti Children's Writers Charitable Trust. She also leads a monthly meeting for local writers.
Anne has lived and worked in many cities. These include Auckland, Wellington, London, and Singapore. Now, she lives in Waikanae, on the Kapiti Coast. This is where she has lived the longest.
