Anne Mazer (born in 1953) is an American author who has written many books. She is known for her popular series, The Amazing Days of Abby Hayes, which has 22 books. She also wrote picture books like The Salamander Room and The No-Nothings and Their Baby.

About Anne Mazer

Anne Mazer was born in 1953 in Schenectady, New York. Her parents, Harry Mazer and Norma Fox Mazer, were both novelists. Growing up, Anne loved books very much. She often spent time at the public library.

After high school, Anne studied art at Syracuse University. She also lived in Paris for three years. There, she studied French language and literature at the Sorbonne.

Her Journey as a Writer

Anne Mazer started writing while she was living in Paris. However, she began writing picture books after her first child was born. Her very first published book was called Watch Me.

Two years later, she published Moose Street. This was her first novel written for young adults.

Popular Books and Awards

Many of Anne Mazer's books have received special recognition.

  • The Salamander Room was chosen as an ABC Children's Choice book in 1993. It was also featured on the TV show Reading Rainbow.
  • Her novel Moose Street was named a Booklist Editor's Choice for Best Book in 1992.
  • The Oxboy was recognized as a Notable Children's Trade Book in 1993. It was also an ALA Notable Book.

Helping Young Writers

Besides writing her own stories, Anne Mazer has also helped other writers. She has written short stories that appear in different collections. She has also put together four collections of stories for teenage readers. Many of these have been named "Best Books for Teens" by the New York Public Library.

In 2010, Anne Mazer worked with Ellen Potter to write Spilling Ink: A Handbook for Young Writers. This book helps young people learn how to write their own stories. She was also an artist in residence at Colgate University that year.
