Anne Stewart, Countess of Galloway (née Anne Dashwood) was born in 1743 and passed away on January 8, 1830. She was an important figure in British society as the wife of John Stewart, 7th Earl of Galloway.

About Anne Stewart

Anne Dashwood was born in 1743 at Kirtlington Park in Oxfordshire, England. This was the family home of her parents, Sir James Dashwood, 2nd Baronet, and Elizabeth Spencer. She had several brothers and sisters. Her family was well-known in society.

Becoming a Countess

On June 13, 1764, Anne married John Stewart. At the time, he was a Member of Parliament (MP) and was expected to inherit his father's title as an Earl. John's first wife had passed away, and they did not have any children who survived.

In the same year they got married, a famous artist named Sir Joshua Reynolds painted a portrait of Anne. In the painting, she looks like a shepherdess. This painting is now kept at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Anne and John had a very large family together. They had sixteen children!
