Anne's Journey to Filmmaking
Anne Wheeler first studied math at the University of Alberta. After graduating, she worked as a computer programmer. But her travels around the world changed her path. She felt inspired to tell stories.
When she came back to Canada, she joined friends to start a film group. From 1975 to 1985, she worked for the National Film Board of Canada (NFB). This is a famous place that makes films about Canada.
Her first big movie was A War Story (1981). It was about her own father, Ben Wheeler. He was a doctor in a prisoner-of-war (POW) camp during World War II. War has been a common topic in her films. She explored it again in Bye Bye Blues (1989) and The War Between Us (1995).
Anne Wheeler also directed episodes for many popular TV shows. These include Anne with an E, Private Eyes, and Cold Squad.
