History of Anness

Anness began to grow when the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway built its train tracks through this area. The person who owned the land where Anness was founded decided to name the community after his wife, whose name was Ann S. Wilson.

The community of Anness was officially started in the 1880s by a man named WH Wilson. This was in what we now know as Sedgwick County. The very first post office in Anness opened its doors in February 1887, helping people send and receive mail.
