Annie Dalton grew up in the English countryside during the 1950s. She was an only child. Her father often told her amazing stories, and she was usually the main character! When her father left the family, Annie missed his stories very much. This led her to discover the fantasy section at her local library. That's how she fell in love with reading and writing fiction.

Before becoming a writer, Annie Dalton worked many different jobs. She was a waitress, a cleaner, and she even worked in a factory. Later, she went to study at the University of Warwick. Soon after, she started writing her own stories.

Annie Dalton lived in Norfolk, England. She had three children named Anna, Reuben, and Maria. Her daughter Maria was the inspiration for her first Angels Unlimited book, which was called Winging It. Annie also had two grandchildren, Sophie and Isabelle.

Recognized Works

Two of Annie Dalton's books, Night Maze and The Real Tilly Beany, were chosen as finalists for the Carnegie Medal. This is a very important award for children's books in the United Kingdom. Her book The After Dark Princess won the Nottinghamshire Book Award. Also, Naming the Dark and Swan Sister were finalists for the Sheffield Children's Book Award.
