Early Life
Annie Griffin was born in New York City, USA. In 1981, when she was 21, she moved to the United Kingdom.
Her Career in Film and TV
Annie Griffin started her career in the 1980s. She wrote and directed plays for experimental theatre. Her first important play was Blackbeard the Pirate in 1987. It was shown at the ICA in London.
In the early 1990s, Annie created short animated videos called "idents" for MTV. These were short clips used to identify the TV channel. In 1993, she also acted in a short animated film called The Village (animated short film). This film was even nominated for an Academy Award, also known as an Oscar!
During the 1990s, Annie worked on many short films. One of these was Seven Sins: Wrath, which featured actors Paul Kaye and David Walliams.
Directing and Writing TV Shows and Films
In 1999, Annie Griffin wrote and directed a film called Coming Soon.
She then created a popular TV show called The Book Group. This was a comedy-drama that aired on Channel 4 in the UK. It ran for two seasons between 2002 and 2003. The show was very successful and won two BAFTA Scotland awards.
In 2005, Annie wrote and directed another film, Festival. This was a dark comedy movie. It was set during the famous Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland.
Later, in 2011, Annie directed two episodes of the TV show Fresh Meat. This was a comedy-drama series on Channel 4. She returned to direct more episodes in 2012. She directed episodes five to eight and also wrote episode six for that season.
