Annie Raoult facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Annie Raoult, born on December 14, 1951, is a French mathematician. She is known for using mathematical modeling to study very small structures. This means she uses math to create models that help us understand how things like cell membranes (the outer layer of cells) and graphene sheets (a super-thin material made of carbon) work. These tiny structures are often called nanostructures.

Annie Raoult is a professor emerita at Paris Descartes University, which means she is a retired professor who still has a special connection to the university. She also helps lead an international math center called the Centre International de Mathématiques Pures et Appliquées (CIMPA) as its vice president.

Her Journey in Mathematics

Annie Raoult studied at a special school in France called the École normale supérieure de Fontenay-aux-Roses from 1971 to 1974. After that, she became a maître de conférences (like a university lecturer and researcher) at Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris, where she worked from 1975 to 1992.

While working there, she earned two important degrees: a doctorate in 1980 and another higher doctorate in 1988.

In 1992, she became a professor at Joseph Fourier University in Grenoble, France. She stayed there until 2005. During her time in Grenoble, she also helped manage the computer science and applied mathematics departments from 1996 to 2001.

In 2005, she moved to Paris Descartes University as a professor. From 2009 to 2014, she was in charge of the laboratory for applied mathematics (MAP5) at that university. Applied mathematics is a field where math is used to solve real-world problems in science and engineering.

In 2017, Annie Raoult became the vice president of CIMPA, the international math center. Later that same year, she retired from Paris Descartes University and became a professor emerita.

Awards and Honors

In 2000, Annie Raoult received a special award called the Prix Paul Doistau–Émile Blutet. This award was given to her by the French Academy of Sciences for her important work in mechanical and computational sciences.
