Annie Williams, a talented watercolour artist.

Annie Williams (born in 1942) is a famous watercolour artist. She won the important Turner Watercolour Award in 2009.

Who is Annie Williams?

Annie Williams was born in London. Her father, Ivor Williams, was also an artist. She grew up in Wales. Before becoming an artist, she trained and worked as a nurse. From 1966 to 1969, she studied Fine Art at City and Guilds.

What Kind of Art Does She Make?

Annie Williams mostly creates still-life paintings. Still life means painting objects that don't move, like fruit, flowers, or everyday items. She loves to play with different shapes, patterns, and colours in her art. She mixes things that look real with more abstract, dream-like parts. She also combines very precise details with softer, suggested areas.

How Does She Create Her Paintings?

In her paintings, the front part often shows a few simple objects, like pots. For the backgrounds, she uses interesting things. These can be textiles (like fabrics), old newspaper cuttings, or even parts of her own unfinished paintings. This helps her create unique and textured backgrounds.

Awards and Exhibitions

Annie Williams has had many special art shows where only her work was displayed. These include shows at the Baker Tilly Gallery, Grape Lane Gallery, and the University of Warwick.

She has won several awards, including:

  • A travel scholarship to Florence, Italy.
  • The Artist Magazine Award at the Mall Galleries.
  • Different awards from the RWS open exhibition called 21st Century Watercolour.

Annie is a member of the important Royal Watercolour Society. She is also a senior fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers. She often shows her work at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.

In 2013, she had a special exhibition. It was called "Still Life: Prints and Watercolours." This show was held at the University of Aberystwyth.

Where Else Has Her Art Been Shown?

Her work has also been seen in the Singer & Friedlander/Sunday Times Watercolour Competition and the Laing Art Competition. Her art has been displayed in many places across the country.
