Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Anpanman is a popular Japanese children's superhero series. It started as picture books written by Takashi Yanase in 1973. The series continued until the author passed away in 2013. Anpanman is one of the most loved anime shows for young kids. The main hero, Anpanman, has a special head made of an anpan, which is a sweet pastry filled with red bean paste. The stories are all about Anpanman's exciting adventures. He works to keep the world safe from a mean germ character named Baikinman.

Anpanman's Adventures

Every day, Anpanman flies around Uncle Jam's house, looking for trouble. During his patrols, Anpanman often helps hungry people or creatures by giving them a piece of his own head! He also battles his enemy, Baikinman, and saves people in need. When Anpanman's head gets damaged or he gives a piece away, he can get a new one. Uncle Jam bakes a fresh head for him, and when Anpanman gets it, he becomes strong and healthy again. Anpanman also has two special moves: the "An-punch" and the "An-kick."

Besides Anpanman, there are other heroes whose heads are also made of bread, like Currypanman and Shokupanman.
