Rev. Anselm Bayly (born 1719 – died 1794) was an English churchman. He wrote many books, mostly about religion and ideas. He was also a talented singer and knew a lot about music. He even performed music by the famous composer George Frideric Handel.
Anselm Bayly's Life Story
Anselm Bayly studied at Christ Church, Oxford, a famous university. He earned a special degree in law there in 1749. He was 21 years old at the time.
Bayly became a priest in the church. He became important in his profession. He worked as a minor canon at St Paul's Cathedral. He also worked at Westminster Abbey. He was a sub-dean at the Chapel Royal, which was a special church for the King or Queen.
In 1751, he became the vicar of Tottenham, a town near London. A vicar is like a main priest for a local church. He earned another advanced degree in law in 1764. In 1787, he got a patent for an "elastic girdle." This was a special belt he designed to help people with certain medical problems. Anselm Bayly passed away in 1794.
