Ansgar's Church (called Ansgariikyrkan in Swedish) was a special church building located in Vättersnäs, a part of Jönköping, Sweden. It was a place of worship for the Mission Covenant Church of Sweden. This group later joined with others in October 2012 to form the Uniting Church in Sweden.
About Ansgar's Church
Ansgar's Church was a modern church building. It served its community for many years. Churches are important places for people to gather, worship, and connect.
Its History
The church was officially opened on 17 October 1965. This means it was a relatively new building. It stood for over 50 years, being a central part of the local community.
The Big Fire
Sadly, Ansgar's Church was destroyed by a fire. This happened during the night of 3 August 2021. The fire was so strong that it completely ruined the building.
What Caused It?
After the fire, people wanted to know what happened. A police report first suggested that a lightning strike caused the fire. However, some people questioned this idea. They pointed out that weather records from the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) didn't show any thunder that night. Also, some people said they saw fireworks explosions. This made the exact cause of the fire a bit of a mystery.
