The Story of Ansley
Ansley was once the home of a big business called the Davis Brothers Lumber Company. The town started because of this company. The Davis brothers and their workers settled here around 1901.
Before the town was built, this area was a thick forest. It was filled with many kinds of trees. These included yellow pine, black gum, red gum, oak, and hickory trees.
The Davis brothers were very important in the lumber business. They had been working with wood since they were young boys. They started their careers in Arkansas.
The Lumber Mill's Life
The Davis Brothers Lumber Company officially became a company in 1881. Their large pine mill started working on December 17, 1902. This mill was very important to the community.
The company kept operating for many years. The mill finally closed its doors in 1957. After the mill closed, the local Post Office also shut down. It was located near the company's office. The Post Office closed on December 3, 1965.
