Anthony is a small community located in Marion County, Florida, in the United States. It's known as an "unincorporated community," which means it's not officially a city or town with its own local government. Instead, it's part of the larger county. Anthony is found along County Road 200A, also called Jacksonville Road. It's also considered part of the Ocala area, which is a larger group of connected cities and towns. Anthony even has its own post office with the ZIP code 32617.

Anthony is famous for being in Florida's "horse country." This area is full of horse farms and places where horse events happen. You might hear about big events like Horse Shows in the Sun (HITS) and Ocala Breeders’ Sales (OBS) that take place nearby.

A Look Back in Time

Anthony has a long history. A post office has been serving the community since 1877. The community really started to grow in 1883 when the railroad reached that spot. At that time, people created a map, or "plat," showing how the land would be divided. The community was named after one of its founders, E. C. Anthony.

Anthony officially became an "incorporated" town in 1892. This meant it had its own local government. This happened during a time when a mineral called phosphate was mined in the area. However, during the tough economic times of the Great Depression in the 1930s, and because of the costs of building roads, the town stopped being incorporated in 1932. It went back to being an unincorporated community.
