Sir Anthony Aucher (born 1614, died 1692) was an important English politician. He was a member of the House of Commons in 1660. He also strongly supported the King during the English Civil War.

Early Life and Family History

Anthony Aucher came from a well-known family. His father was also named Sir Anthony Aucher. His family had a long history of serving the English kings.

A Family Connected to Kings

Anthony's great-grandfather, also named Anthony Aucher, worked for Henry VIII. This ancestor received a large estate called the Manor of Plumford in 1547 from Edward VI of England. This shows how important the Aucher family was in England.

Supporting the King During the Civil War

Sir Anthony Aucher was a strong supporter of the King during the English Civil War. This war was a big fight between those who supported the King (called Royalists) and those who supported Parliament.

Imprisonment for His Beliefs

In 1641, Anthony Aucher was made a knight. However, just two years later, he was put in prison. This was because he was involved in a protest called the "Petition of Kent," which was against Parliament. He stayed in Winchester House for nine months before he was set free.

A Member of Parliament

After the Civil War, in 1660, Sir Anthony Aucher was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP). He represented the area of Canterbury in a special Parliament called the Convention Parliament. This Parliament helped bring the King back to power.

Becoming a Baronet

On 4 July 1666, Sir Anthony Aucher received a special title. He was made a baronet. A baronet is a hereditary title, meaning it can be passed down in the family. His title was "Baronet, of Bishopsbourne, in the County of Kent."

Family Life

Sir Anthony Aucher was married twice. His first wife was Elizabeth Hatton. They had six sons and one daughter, but sadly, all of them passed away during his lifetime.

Second Marriage and Successors

After his first wife died, Anthony married Elizabeth Hewytt in 1681. With his second wife, he had two sons and two daughters. His oldest son who was still alive, also named Anthony, took over the baronetcy after his father passed away. Another of his sons, John, became an important church leader in Canterbury.

Sir Anthony Aucher passed away on 31 May 1692 and was buried in Bourne, Kent.
