Anthony Montrel Hilliard (born June 28, 1986) is an American professional basketball player. He is known for playing as a shooting guard or small forward. Anthony has played for many teams around the world, showing his skills in different leagues.
College Basketball Journey
Anthony Hilliard played college basketball for four years. He was part of the Elizabeth City State Vikings team from 2005 to 2009. During his time there, he became a star player.
Top College Awards
Anthony was named the CIAA Player of the Year two times. He earned this big award in both 2008 and 2009. This means he was considered the best player in his college league for those years. He also won the CIAA Tournament MVP award in 2007.
Professional Basketball Career
After college, Anthony Hilliard started his professional basketball career in 2009. He has played for many teams in different countries.
Early Years in Europe
Anthony began his professional journey in Belgium. He played for Verviers-Pepinster in 2009–2010. Then, he moved to Okapi Aalstar for the 2010–2011 season. In 2011–2012, he played in Germany for the Artland Dragons.
Playing in France and Finland
From 2012 to 2014, Anthony played in France for the Antibes Sharks. He helped his team win the French League Pro B championship in 2013. After that, he played in Finland for Bisons Loimaa during the 2014–2015 season.
Championship in Belarus
In the 2015–2016 season, Anthony played for Tsmoki-Minsk in Belarus. He had a very successful year there. His team won the Belarus Premier League championship in 2016. They also won the Belarusian Cup that same year.
Adventures in Israel and Russia
Anthony started the 2016–2017 season in Israel with Maccabi Rishon LeZion. In January 2017, he joined Enisey in Russia. He continued playing for Enisey for the 2017–2018 season.
Return to France and New Countries
For the 2018–2019 season, Anthony went back to France. He played for Le Portel. In August 2019, he signed with Champville SC in the Lebanese Basketball League. In January 2020, he moved to Portugal to play for Benfica.
Playing in Finland and Uruguay
In February 2021, Anthony returned to Finland. He played for Kauhajoki Karhu for the rest of the 2020–2021 season. For the 2021–2022 season, he joined Malvín in Uruguay. This team plays in the Liga Uruguaya de Básquetbol (LUB).
Success in New Zealand
On May 20, 2022, Anthony signed with the Taranaki Airs in New Zealand. He played for them for the rest of the 2022 New Zealand NBL season. He was a top player, averaging 26.3 points per game. He was also named to the New Zealand NBL All-Star Five and was the New Zealand NBL Scoring Champion in 2022. He rejoined the Taranaki Airs for the 2023 New Zealand NBL season.
Recent Seasons in South America
Anthony returned to Malvín in Uruguay for the 2022–2023 LUB season. In July 2023, he joined Urunday Universitario in the Uruguay Metropolitan League. He helped them win the Uruguay Metro League championship in 2023. He returned to Malvín for the 2023–2024 LUB season. In May 2024, Anthony played for Oberá Tenis Club in Argentina. After six games, he joined Sayago in the Uruguay Metropolitan League. He is currently playing for Malvín for the 2024–2025 LUB season.
