Who Was Anthony Mildmay?
Anthony Mildmay was the son of Sir Humphrey Mildmay. His family lived in a place called Danbury in Essex, England. In 1624, he earned a special degree called an MA from Cambridge University. This happened when the King visited the university.
Anthony Mildmay was a very important person in the King's court. He was a "gentleman usher," which meant he helped guide people and organize events for the King. He was also a "carver," meaning he helped serve food at royal meals. He was loyal to King Charles I.
Serving in Parliament
In April 1640, Anthony Mildmay became a Member of Parliament. This means he was chosen to represent a town called West Looe in the English Parliament. This Parliament was known as the "Short Parliament" because it did not last very long.
Loyalty to the King
Anthony Mildmay stayed loyal to King Charles I even during difficult times. He was with the King when he was held prisoner. After the King's death in 1649, Mildmay helped move the King's body to Windsor.
He also took care of two of the King's children: Henry, Duke of Gloucester and Princess Elizabeth. He escorted them to Carisbrooke Castle. Princess Elizabeth sadly passed away there in 1650. Henry stayed at the castle until he went abroad in 1652.

Anthony Mildmay had a brother named Henry Mildmay. Henry was also an important person who worked for the King as the "Master of the Jewel Office." Later, Henry became involved with the Parliamentarian side during the English Civil War.
